Here are the most searched electric vehicles on Google

Given the very unequal production capacities and delivery times from one car manufacturer to another, a simple glance at the sales chart does not tell the whole story. This is especially true when talking about electric vehicles.

For example, which models are the most coveted or which generate the most interest? To answer this question, we can turn to the search results on Google. That’s what GRIDSERVE, a UK-based electric vehicle rental company, did.

For all of 2022, the Tesla Model 3 was the most searched electric vehicle by internet users globally with 19.99 million searches. Moreover, Tesla dominates the ranking: the Model Y (13.9 million) appears in third place, the Model S (11.46 million) in fifth place and the Model X (9.54 million) in seventh place.

Two Korean models are in the top 5, the Kia EV6 (15.82 million) in second place and the Hyundai IONIQ 5 (12.69 million) in fourth place. In the case of the EV6, it was the one that dominated electric vehicle searches in Canada in 2022.

Looking at the top 10 positions, we note the Porsche Taycan (10.51 million) in sixth, the Polestar 2 (8.21 million) in eighth, the Lexus RZ (7.19 million) in ninth and the BMW i4 (7 .06 million) in tenths. The RZ is the number one electric vehicle in the most countries, 41.

No Chinese model in the list of most wanted electric vehicles in 2022? Don’t be so surprised. We are talking about Google, after all, while the Chinese mainly use the Baidu search engine.

GRIDSERVE has also tried to identify the electric vehicles that are likely to prove the most popular in 2023, based on a projection based on research in the second half of 2022. The Volvo EX90 appears at the top, ahead of the BMW i7 , the Kia EV6 and the Tesla Semi. No Tesla Cybertruck, in case you were wondering. The absence of the Hyundai IONIQ 6 sedan, freshly voted World Car of the Year, surprises us a little, however.
