La Nupes, the alliance of the main left-wing parties, becomes the second political force in the Assembly, with 133 deputies, according to our calculations*: 72 for La France insoumise, 26 for the Socialist Party, 23 for the ecologists and 12 for the French Communist Party. Add 20 deputies classified as various left, but who should sit with these parties (left candidates in Corsica and overseas were not included in this coalition).
This result is not enough to obtain the majority sought by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the leader of La France insoumise, who will not be appointed Prime Minister. But the left bloc will be better represented than during the previous legislature.
The far right is making spectacular progress. The National Rally wins 89 seats in the future National Assembly. Never had the RN or its predecessor, the National Front, had more than 35 deputies (it was in 1986). In 2017, the far-right party had eight, which did not allow it to have a parliamentary group, the threshold for which is set at 15 elected members.
The right-wing bloc, made up of the Republicans, the UDI and various right-wingers, will count for its part 74 seats. LR, which had more than a hundred deputies, lost its place as the main opposition group.
* Franceinfo carried out various checks and decided to integrate into the ranks of Nupes two candidates labeled Divers gauche by the Ministry of the Interior. Contrary to the figures of the ministry, the projections in seats of the Nupes therefore count, in this hemicycle, the deputies Joël Aviragnet and Hervé Saulignac.
