Earning one day off per week, by reorganizing your work week: the formula tempts many French people. According to a survey that the company GetApp has just published, 84% of employees whose company does not practice the four-day week would be interested in adopting this system. A formula that is only offered in certain services today by 13% of companies, according to this study.

But the French are not ready to go to four days on any condition. Above all, they want to keep the same salary. Three-quarters of them would agree to switch to a four-day week if they kept the same salary for an unchanged number of hours of work. They therefore say they are ready to work longer days in exchange for a reduction in the number of days of presence.

On the other hand, 20% of those questioned would agree to switch to four days only if they kept the same salary, but had fewer hours of work to do, i.e. switch to 32 hours per week without loss of pay.

The benefits are multiple

This is also the formula adopted by the pioneer of the four-day week in France, a Lyon-based computer company: the LDLC company. Its founding president, Laurent de la Clergerie, has just taken stock of this major change, two years after adopting it. At home, in fact, you work one day less, but you keep your salary. Result: 88% of employees say that the formula suits them perfectly and that they could never go back to the five-day week. Only 1% of employees would like to go back.

The efficiency of each employee increased, to the point that the company did not need to recruit to compensate for the hours not worked. The number of workplace accidents has halved and the absenteeism rate has fallen by one point, to just 4%. Ditto for employee loyalty.

Turnover, the departure rate of employees, has been divided by four in two years. The icing on the cake, the company has earned a good reputation in the job market and the number of candidates applying to join the company has skyrocketed.
