Hérault: an iris collector opens the doors of his garden in Gignac

The iris season has begun, if you pass by Gignac in the Hérault, don’t miss Franck Bertrand’s garden. The enthusiast cultivates no less than 400 different varieties and opens its doors until May 20.

Tricolor, or with a gold spangled gradation, or even with black velvet petals: the iris is celebrating this month of May. To Gignac (Hérault), more than 350 varieties are in flower at the moment, a real exhibition in the open field. “People are in admiration, in discovery for some, in addition to the collection for others”describes Franck Bertrand, collector.

“The saffron colors, I didn’t know them, orange I love them, purple too. It’s superb”, describes an enthusiastic visitor. Franck started 25 years ago. Today, his collection offers more than 500 varieties. An assortment of colors and an intoxicating palette of flavors, from vanilla to citrus to chocolate. “There are always new fantasies, which we will look for”, says Franck Bertrand. Varieties that come from all over the world. The exhibition is open every day until May 20.
