Since the beginning of her twin pregnancy, Shanna Kress shares her daily life as a pregnant woman with her companion Matijas Jonathan on the YouTube channel A guy, a girlf. After an analysis carried out by their gynecologist, who had just had the results of a blood test, the couple learned that one or two of their babies were at risk of being affected by trisomy 21. After undergoing a amniocentesis on June 2, the couple finally revealed the results. “We have the result. (…) One of the two fetuses has nothing and the other has trisomy 21.“. After crying together against each other, the lovers shared their feelings.
“It’s very, very hard because we were waiting. We have answers but it’s not easy“, indicates the former candidate of reality tv. “We learned that one of our babies had trisomy 21 and we needed a few hours to cry, to hug, to discuss“, adds his companion. “This is sad news but there is one of the two who is doing very well. That’s what we said to each other before this news, we didn’t realize that it was a chance to have a child. We realized that having a child is not so simple“, then explains the couple.
We do it for our reasons
“We decided to keep only one child. It’s not easy because there’s going to be one, his heart is going to stop, there’s still one that’s going to be born and it’s a chance. It’s not easy to tell yourself that there is one, your heart will stop“, adds Matijas Jonathan in tears. “Yes because in fact the decision you have to sign a paper it must be you who is asking for it, the doctor cannot ask you ‘: What do you want to do? That’s to say you’re the one who signs your child’s heart failure. It is not easy. I think it’s already the case for both of us, even if he’s not there, we already love him. We had already imagined that he would be there, we had made plans so it’s not easy but we do it for our reasons. It belongs to us. We ask no one else. We don’t expect anyone’s approval. We do it because it’s the two of us and it will be the two of us above all.“
Pained, the couple continues: “We wish a lot of courage for all parents who have a child with Down syndrome but it’s just that doing otherwise is complicated. We know full well that in this world already escaping the wickedness of people is not easy and I think it will be enough to look at the comments on social networks to realize it. Then it’s not easy to be different. And on top of that we have twins. So that means you don’t have to hurt one but you have to make the other feel like they belong. If our two children had been born and we would have had to deal with it, we would have done with it, we would have loved it with all our might. We would have made him the happiest in the world.”
At the end of their video, the couple indicates that they made an appointment at the hospital on Sunday to perform an abortion on the baby with Down’s syndrome.
