A list without much surprise. For his last as coach of the Bleues, Hervé Renard opted for continuity. The coach announced, Monday July 8, a list of 18 players and three substitutes. Seven names were therefore excluded from the pre-list established a month earlier.
To compose its group, the French staff has placed their trust in the selection’s historic players. The captain, Wendie Renard, and Amandine Henry will be there and will have to bring their Olympic experience. Eugénie Le Sommer, who has not played since injuring her right knee in a match against Sweden on April 9, is also part of the group. The Olympic Games will take place, however, without Thiniba Samoura, Julie Dufour and Inès Benyahia, all three absent from the final list, while Louna Ribadeira was injured three days before the selection was announced. Solène Durand, Eve Périsset, Léa Le Garrec and Vicki Becho are listed as reserves.
The French women’s team is currently in the qualifying phase for Euro 2025, with two matches to play, against Sweden on Friday July 12 in Dijon, then Tuesday July 16 in Ireland. Les Bleues will then be able to focus on the Games. They will begin their tournament in Lyon against Colombia on Thursday July 25, the day before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
