Henry du voyage, Chavas, Jean-François and Tounkara out of the group… The list of 23 Bleues unveiled

The coach of the France team revealed on Tuesday the 23 players called up for the World Cup which begins on July 20.

The return of an expected boss, young tricolor promises … Hervé Renard, the coach of the France team, unveiled, Tuesday, July 4, his list of 23 players summoned to compete in the next World Cup, which will be played in New Zealand and Australia (from July 20 to August 20, 2023). In his selection, for his first major competition on the bench of the Blue, the former coach of Saudi Arabia made strong choices.

He notably maintained Amandine Henry, former captain of the France team (93 caps, 13 goals). Recalled for the preparation camp for the first time since 2020, the 33-year-old midfielder, who was not part of the plans of the former coach Corinne Deaconwill play his third World Cup. Deprived on injury of star striker Marie-Antoinette Katoto and elusive winger Delphine Cascarino, Hervé Renard had to innovate.

A first for Vicki Becho and Naomie Feller

To make up for this salvo of injuries, two new ones will join the tricolor group and will play their first international competition: the 19-year-old and 21-year-old forwards, Vicki Becho and Naomie Feller. Midfielder Oriane Jean-François, injured, will not participate in the Women’s World Cup this summer with the France team. Goalkeeper Mylène Chavas and defender Aïssatou Tounkara will not be on the trip but remain reserves. They could therefore be reinstated in the group in the event of a forfeit, the Federation announced on Tuesday.
