Henri Laniray, president of the ASM Handisport and adapted sport section

Interview by Mirna from Onde Carriere

50 years later, I am happy to be able, in my turn, to take an interest in school life in the professional future of the disabled athlete who is next to me, because yes, it is a value that I must transmit.

The career of Henri Laniray

Arrived at the club in 1965, Henri Laniray practiced rugby and athletics. With Jeannot Viallon, he created women’s rugby in Romagnat. Then in 2008, he participated with Jacques Champeix and Gérard Bertin in the creation of the ASM disabled sport.

His role: develop disabled and adapted sports activities and allow people with physical or mental disabilities to come and practice an activity, and thus find a pleasure in life, a hope, a way to recharge their batteries, to rebuild themselves, to concretize a project.

Disabled sports section

Following Adrien Chalmin’s rugby accident, the wheelchair rugby association was created. Then in 2011 the disabled sports section was officially launched for the 100th anniversary of the club.

The necessary equipment has been put in place, elevators, fittings of the premises, everything is up to standard. The asm now offers complete equipment for people with disabilities.

Several French champions, particularly in athletics, train at ASM.

110 years of ASM as seen by Henri Laniray

I remember the words of Mr. Robert Poulain, who was the sporting director of rugby, who was there in the 70s and who told us the story of a cloister in Germany. Within the construction and inside this cloister, there is _a large chapel and this chapel rests on a pillar, a central pillar. However, in terms of architecture, it is relatively rare in the Gothic. This pillar has a vocation, it is to support, of course, the whole. And this set is harmonious because there are lots of different divisions from each other, but it allows the structure to exist. This construction is the perfect example of ASM Omnisports and its 110 years. _
