Help for food banks: “no one will be left behind”, promises the government

The government would not say Wednesday if it plans to give emergency aid to food banks before Christmas. However, the Minister responsible for Social Solidarity Chantal Rouleau promises that “no one will be left behind”.

The minister “is looking for lasting solutions so that Quebeckers who seek food banks can be well supported,” the minister said in writing on Wednesday.

Mrs Rouleau reacted to the revelations of the To have to about the shortage of food in food banks as the holidays approach. Currently, 62% of organizations say they are unable to meet demand and therefore have to provide people in need with less full and less varied baskets.

To alleviate the problem, the Food Banks of Quebec are asking for help before Christmas in order to fill the shelves in January. Will such help be forthcoming? The minister’s office remained vague, but at the same time committed to meeting all needs.

“There is no question of leaving Quebecers hungry for the holidays, no one will be left behind,” said the new Minister of Social Solidarity Chantal Rouleau, who also indicates that she intends to act “quickly” .

“Just last Friday, she paid a visit to Moisson Montreal and she continues to meet other community players who oversee this important mission,” also argued her press officer. On Tuesday, Martin Munger, general manager of Food Banks of Quebec, mentioned that “very encouraging discussions” were underway with Quebec.
