1838. Young Ahmed Naili, just 19 years old, was born near Oran. He dared to brave the curfew to see his beautiful Maryam. Her stolen kiss is going to cost her dearly, and maybe even her life. Ahmed was sent to prison in Guyana, on the Salvation Islands, off Kourou, where France sent its detainees. Life, without hope, is hell. One day, Ahmed crosses paths with a little girl. This meeting, or rather this apparition, will turn his life as a prisoner upside down, and give him hope.
“That’s when he sees her. An angel with long brown curls and diaphanous skin.”

Hell is a short, incisive, sensitive and brilliant story, in a way already really a nugget. Good luck to Marin Ledun to make this happen next Wednesday, December 1st, the day of the award ceremony for the famous Pépites at the Salon du Livre et de la Presse jeunesse in Montreuil!
Full Gray of Marion Brunet, PKJ editions, to be read from 13 years old (January 2021). Chronicle of franceinfo junior Books with the author to listen to here.
