Young Nigerian singer-songwriter Rema has made a big impression with his debut album, Rave & Rosesreleased two years ago. With his original style that he called Afrorave (with very synthetic rhythms and orchestrations), the musician injected a good dose of danger and volatility to the Afrobeat sound. He persists and signs on HEISa shorter, darker, more slobbery album, announced only a few days ago with the anxiety-provoking single HEHEHE. Surrounding himself with a handful of young composers on the rise (the Belgian Alex Lustig, the Nigerians P. Priime and Altims, among others), Rema refreshes the typical rhythms of the new Nigerian pop — on BENIN BOYS and the bewitching ones YAYOaccompanied by female choirs, and WAR MACHINEa duo with ODUMODUBLVCK from the rap collective Anti World Gangstars. However, it is when he imagines new fusions between electronic club music and Afrobeat that he reveals himself to be a visionary, from the furious AZAMAN in the opening, then on the frenetic rhythm ofOZEBA. Heavy, but danceable.
