Jacob Hoggard was convicted on June 5 of sexually assaulting and causing bodily harm to an Ottawa woman in her twenties.
The Crown had asked for a sentence of six to seven years in prison, while the defense had asked that Mr Hoggard be kept behind bars for only three to four years.
He was also acquitted of the charges of touching and sexual assault on teenage girls who were aged 15 and 16 respectively at the time of the charges against him.
The jury reached this verdict after six days of deliberation.
During the trial, Mr Hoggard, 38, defended himself by saying the sex was consensual and he pleaded not guilty. The defense alleged that the women sought revenge by accusing the singer of assault after being rejected by him.
