Hedley singer Jacob Hoggard sentenced to five years in prison

Canadian musician Jacob Hoggard has been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting an Ottawa woman.

The Crown had asked for a sentence of six to seven years behind bars, while the defense was asking for three to four years.

The Crown argued that Hoggard posed a risk to the public, while the defense brandished a psychiatric report indicating he was at low risk of reoffending.

The 2016 sexual assault took place in a hotel room in Toronto and the Ottawa woman told Hoggard’s sentencing hearing that what happened would haunt her for the rest of his life.

Hoggard had also been charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm to a teenage girl, as well as sexual interference involving that complainant, but he was found not guilty of those offences.

The 38-year-old Hedley singer had pleaded not guilty to all charges.
