Before Emmanuel Macron’s trip to Israel, a debate without a vote was held on Monday October 23 in the National Assembly. Élisabeth Borne spoke in a tense context, while the political class still remains very divided on the situation in the Middle East.

It was in a very sparse hemicycle that the Prime Minister spoke on Monday, October 23, to call for a humanitarian truce and to try to calm the climate, which had become electric. “To minimize, justify or even absolve terrorism is to accept that it will strike again tomorrow in Israel, in France or anywhere else”declared Élisabeth Borne. “We must show no ambiguity in the face of such crimes”, added the Prime Minister. Words aimed in particular at the elected officials of La France insoumise, who refuse to qualify Hamas as a terrorist organization.

A three-hour debate

The leader of the left party Mathilde Panot denounces France’s following position in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Marine Le Pen directly responded to France Insoumise: “This is why we are not asking terrorists to cease fire but to lay down their weapons and free the hostages, that’s all!”. A three-hour debate which took place on the eve of the head of state’s trip to Israel. Emmanuel Macron will notably meet Benyamin Netanyahu.
