It has never been this hot in Montreal on February 27 since these statistics were recorded, Environment Canada said on Tuesday.
“Today in Montreal, we reached 15 degrees. We beat the old record, which was 11 degrees in 2000,” said Michèle Fleury, spokesperson for the federal meteorological agency.
The abnormally mild temperatures are coming from south of the border.
It is “a vast low pressure system coming from the southwest of the United States which brings a mass of mild air over the entire province”, indicated Mme Fleury. “It’s going to be a similar scenario tomorrow [mercredi], we expect to break a temperature record as well. » However, there will be some rain.
The mercury should then fall overnight from Wednesday to Thursday. “There will be the passage of a very significant cold front, which will cause temperatures to drop very suddenly. We go from +13 to -13 during the night,” described Mme Fleury.
“Surfaces, such as roads, streets, sidewalks and parking lots, could become icy and slippery,” adds Environment Canada.
