(Los Angeles) Ann Wilson, lead singer of the rock band Heart, has announced that she has cancer and that the band is postponing the remaining shows of its tour. Royal Flush Tour while she was undergoing treatment.
Ann Wilson said in a statement Tuesday that she had surgery for a cancerous tumor and was gradually recovering, but that her doctors had advised her to undergo preventive chemotherapy and take time off from concerts “in order to fully recover.” “This means that the remaining concerts on the North American tour will be postponed to dates in 2025.”
“To ticket buyers, I would really like us to be able to do these concerts. Please know that I absolutely intend to return to the stage in 2025,” Wilson said in the statement. “My team is working out those details and we will share the plan with you as soon as possible.”
All previously purchased tickets for the postponed shows will be honored. The rescheduled dates will be announced in the coming weeks, the statement said.
“This is just a break. I have a lot more to sing,” Wilson continued, adding, “Respectfully, this is the last public statement I want to make on this.”
More than 50 stadium and arena concerts in dozens of cities across the United States and Canada are affected by the postponement. Some of the concerts were scheduled to include performances by Def Leppard and Journey, and Heart has not announced whether those bands will accompany it at the postponed shows.
The band, led by sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson on guitar, cancelled the European leg of their tour in May, explaining that the singer had to undergo “a routine, time-sensitive procedure for which the minimum recovery time is six weeks.”
Wilson posted a message on Instagram at the time of the European shows’ cancellation, writing: “I’m fine! Don’t worry. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. It’s certainly an inconvenience for me.”
The Wilson sisters, who found success with hits like Magic Man, Crazy on You And Aloneformed the group in 1973. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy in 2023.
