Lung cancer is one of the deadliest. However, there is no organized screening, as for breast cancer or colorectal cancer. It is increasing sharply among women, according to a recent study.

Isabelle Charpentier started smoking at 14 and has been fighting her addiction for 40 years. She volunteered to participate in the Cascade study on lung cancer screening. In France, there is no organized screening for lung cancer. The disease affects more and more women. “It is linked to the fact that the women had a smoking habit that started later [que les hommes]but who feels now”says Professor Marie Wislez, pulmonologist-oncologist and scientific manager of the Cascade study (AP-HP).

According to a study by pulmonologists in general hospitals, the share of women in lung cancer has increased from 16% of cases in 2000 to almost 35% in 2020. The study recommends early detection, to increase the chances of recovery. “Lung cancer identified on screening is 80% [qui seront] operable”justifies Professor Marie-Pierre Revel, head of the radiology department at Cochin Hospital (AP-HP).
