Do you know if your drinks contain sweeteners? You will now be able to find out thanks to the famous Nutri-score, which changes the way it is calculated to promote even healthier choices.

Are soda, yogurt or fruit juice bad for our health? At the end of the year, their Nutri-score could deteriorate, a score which appeared on our shelves five years ago and which classifies our foods from A to E. An indicator closely scrutinized by consumers. In the viewfinder of scientists, ultra-processed drinks, which until now displayed a Nutri-score A or B. However, they may contain sweeteners or substitute sugars sometimes present in large quantities in light or sugar-free drinks.

A non-compulsory scale

From now on, these products will be penalized. “As soon as a drink contains sweeteners, its rating is downgraded regardless of the type of sweetener and the amount of sweetener”explains Serge Hercberg, nutritionist and inventor of the Nutri-score. Despite the new scale, the Nutri-score remains non-compulsory. However, according to doctors, sweeteners have consequences for our health.
