In September, for the first time, hundreds of thousands of newborns received a new medication for bronchiolitis. “We can say that this new drug, Beyfortus, preventive (…) has won great enthusiasm. We have had nearly 250 000 doses which have been administered in France, while there are 700 000 infants under one year old. That’s 35% coverage.”indicates on the set of 20 Heures the doctor and journalist Damien Mascret, Wednesday February 28.
Encouraging results
In total, 85% of parents were in favor of Beyfortus. What are the results ? It is a little early to make a decision in France, indicates the journalist, who specifies that ““Doctors have the impression of having seen fewer infants under three months in intensive care during the winter.” In Spain, a country which has already made an initial assessment, with coverage, depending on the region, of 79 to 98% of newborns, 84% fewer hospitalizations have been recorded.
