Waiting for months to get an appointment with a gynecologist or find a general practitioner who takes new patients, this is the daily life of millions of French people who live in medical deserts.

For two months, a medical office located in Haute-Savoie has welcomed a new general practitioner. The latter had to close her office in the neighboring town because she had too much work and loads to bear after the departure of her two sisters who changed paths. No doctor wanted to relocate. Result: the 3,000 inhabitants of Bonne-sur-Menoge found themselves without a doctor.

7% fewer general practitioners since 2010

The town hall is trying to find a successor at all costs. She says she is ready to pay the rent and part of the establishment’s expenses. Medical desertification also affects Annecy. In a doctor’s office, a doctor receives 40 calls every day from patients seeking a general practitioner. He himself has been trying to find his successor for a year and a half. Since 2010, the number of general practitioners has fallen by 7% in Haute-Savoie.
