Doctors no longer support appointments made by patients who will not come never and that without warning. This concerns 28 million appointments per year in France. The unions are thinking about how to counter these incivilities.
On the morning of Friday, September 23, a rheumatologist waited for two patients who never came. “It is very penalizing for patients who seek to have an appointment at the cost of sometimes incredible delays, here it is two to three months. And then it is penalizing for the practicing doctore”, explains Valérie Briole. Two to three missed appointments per day on average per practice, this is equivalent to 28 million wasted appointments each year.
In France, you cannot claim the total amount of a consultation that did not take place. Un union of doctors proposes the establishment of compensation, a kind of fine. An idea to which patients do not necessarily adhere. “If you fine people, they won’t come to see the doctors anymore“, thinks a patient. This “fine” was inspired by the Belgian model, where practitioners can demand a flat rate if the patient does not come.
