According to a study, unveiled Thursday, February 23, we stay in shape longer for both women and men. After age 65, we have on average between 11 and 13 years left in good health.

Five kilometers of walking per day at over 80 years old, to age well, an elderly couple knows that physical exercise is the best ally. “You have to force yourself a bit because before we did it very quickly, now we walk at a slower pace, we try to do it anyway”, comments the woman. “It is a necessity to get oxygen, to move”continues his companion. From the age of 65, life expectancy in good health increases.

Better support

After this age, women can expect to live to age 77.6 without major health concerns. For men, it is one year younger. If we compare with the same study in 2018, women have therefore gained +2.7 years of healthy life, and men +2.8 years. This may be linked to better disease management according to Benoît OurliacDeputy Director of Health Observation andHealth Insurance.
