Public Health France (spf) published two studies on Tuesday, July 11, about screening for breast cancer and colorectal cancer. “French women and men do not follow prevention advice enough”, says journalist Gérald Kierzek, present on the 8 Hours set. According spfthe participation rate of women aged 50 to 74 in breast cancer screening is less than 50%. The journalist also indicates that there are “strong regional disparities”. “This screening is very low, especially in Île-de-France and in the South-East, so we can do better on breast cancer”he says.
“The earlier we detect, the earlier we can treat”
Regarding colorectal cancer screening, the participation of men and women aged 50 to 74 is 34.6%. “And yet, it is the third most common cancer, with more than 17,000 deaths”says Gerald Kierzek. “Here again, the message is that the earlier we detect, the earlier we can treat”he continues. “So we can do better in terms of prevention”concludes the journalist.
