Health issues | Conductor Daniel Barenboim forced to cancel concerts

(Berlin) Legendary pianist and conductor Daniel Barenboim, 79, has again canceled a series of concerts due to health problems, for the second time in just over two months, has announced the Berlin Staatsoper which he directs.

Posted at 2:39 p.m.

“Daniel Barenboim is currently suffering from circulatory disorders and is therefore undergoing medical treatment,” said the Berlin State Opera in a brief statement.

“He is currently resting and as a precaution his doctors have advised him to cancel his concerts until April 22 inclusive,” added the Staatsoper.

In February he had already canceled all his engagements for several weeks, this time due to surgery.

The Israeli-Argentine maestro has been the musical director of the Berlin State Opera and its orchestra, the Staatskapelle, for three decades and under contract until 2027.

“I will stay until I have the strength. Otherwise I will leave; I don’t want to remain as a relic of the past, ”he confided to AFP last year.
