The French Blood Establishment needs donations regularly because reserves are at their lowest. In France, 30,000 bags are missing to meet blood transfusion needs due to the pandemic.
The municipal hall of Saint-Quentin in Picardy has been transformed into a transfusion centre. Everywhere in France, the French Blood Establishment evokes the vital emergency and the alert has mobilized many donors as in Bordeaux (Gironde). Currently, 30,000 bags of red blood cells are missing to reach the 100,000 which constitute the minimum of the national stock.
In two years of pandemic, many collections were canceled and the medical staff ran out. This is a phenomenon that has been accentuated lately by the magnitude of the fourth Omicron wave. To deal with this crisis, the French Blood Establishment is now forced to establish priorities. All donors are welcome, even people who have tested positive for covid or showing symptoms. They just have to wait 14 days before donating blood.
