The doctor and journalist Damien Mascret evokes, on the set of 19/20 Wednesday, April 19, the symptoms and the problems around endometriosis.
First of all, do not confuse painful periods with endometriosis. “In endometriosis, the periods are particularly abundant and painful, women sometimes speak of stab wounds they receive in the lower abdomen”, explains the doctor and journalist Damien Mascret, on the set of 19/20. They cannot carry out their usual activities, and intercourse is painful.
2.5 million women have endometriosis
After a few years, the pain becomes “almost permanent”, day and night. The disease is curable, thanks to two pillars. “The first is to fight against pain with analgesics, the second is hormonal treatments”, like the pill, says the doctor. In about one in three cases, surgery is needed to remove the endometriotic lesions. Diagnosis is made by ultrasound or MRI. 2.5 million women have endometriosis, some without knowing it.
