Health Canada authorized the use of the manufacturer’s Spikevax vaccine on Friday a little over a month after receiving its request. Moderna had submitted it on October 6. The ministry believes that the serum meets its requirements “in terms of safety, efficacy and quality”.

The third dose of the vaccine aims to prolong immunity over a longer period. It corresponds to half a dose of the regular vaccine.

Earlier this week, the Quebec government recommended a booster dose for people 70 and older. A decrease in immunity against COVID-19 is seen in 80 years and older.
