Health Canada has authorized a first booster dose against COVID-19 for children. The approval is for Pfizer’s vaccine for ages 5 to 11, with a dose of 10 micrograms.
The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) recommends it “after an interval of at least 6 months after the completion of a primary series of vaccines against COVID-19 to all children 5 to 11 years of age”.
NACI strongly suggests that children 5 to 11 years of age, “who are moderately to severely immunocompromised, be immunized with a three-dose primary series with an mRNA vaccine, with an interval of 4 to 8 weeks between each dosage”.
According to NACI, “as of July 17, 2022, 42% of the population aged 5-11 years in Canada were vaccinated with a primary series”.
