The France Télévisions teams went to the magnificent cliffs of Leucate, in Aude. It is a paradise for birds and nature lovers.

The cliffs of Leucate (Aude) border an often rough sea. It is the ideal place for walks. “It’s good to see a very calm landscape, still a little wild”, commented tourists. The cliffs are also a paradise for migrating birds. They host nearly 250 species.

For three years, Gabriel Caucal, ornithologist, has been counting birds from his observation post. Enthusiasts often join him. “It allows you to improve your knowledge and train yourself in bird identification, in observation conditions that are not always very easy”, explains Bruno Basso, amateur ornithologist. For several months, they map the crossing points of the birds, in order to observe the evolution of the different species over time. Laurent Simons, lighthouse technician, is delighted to work with the plants on the plateau, which he knows by heart.
