He wanted to help Ukraine | Man tried to send pyrotechnic powder to Zelensky

(Ottawa) A 35-year-old man from Lanaudière tried to send pyrotechnic powder by mail to President Volodymyr Zelensky to help Ukraine. Explosives technicians from the Sûreté du Québec had to intervene in a garage in Saint-Félix-de-Valois on Wednesday. The Village-Saint-Pierre man was arrested and must appear at the Joliette courthouse in August.

“His file will be submitted to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions who will determine whether charges of possession of explosive devices, among others, will be laid,” indicated SQ spokesperson Éloïse Cossette.

The police also conducted a search of a vehicle. They seized pyrotechnic powder and other objects related to the suspicious packages. The man, whose identity has not been released, showed up at the post office with packages addressed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He was willing to pay high fees for this international shipping.

Investigators from the SQ Major Crimes Investigation Division questioned the suspect who was subsequently released with a series of conditions. His appearance is scheduled for August 22. In the meantime, he must receive psychiatric care.
