“What I think we can remember is that Mr. Rondeau’s maneuver was dangerous. [Elle dénote] a departure from what one would expect of a reasonable person. So, it must be treated like that”, pleaded the prosecutor Me Alexandre Dubois, in addition to demanding the withdrawal of Éric Rondeau’s driver’s license for a period of five years.

The lawyer emphasized the “extremely dramatic” consequences for the relatives of the victim that the gesture of the driver of a pick-up truck had on July 22, 2019.

That day, the 47-year-old man collided with Félix-Antoine Gagné, 19, who was riding a motorcycle on Route 345, in Sainte-Élisabeth, in Lanaudière.

Anxious to avoid hitting a cane and six ducklings, the father of the family branched off into the opposite lane on a curve.

The oncoming motorcyclist sprung up at this moment, crashing into the Ford F-150.

For its part, the defense is instead proposing a suspended sentence and a two-year driving ban.

More details to come.
