He pretended to be a radiologist | Paid $500 to abort a woman with a skewer

A patient attendant who posed as a radiologist allegedly received $500 to forcibly abort a vulnerable woman with a barbecue skewer. A “heinous” and “terrible” crime, according to a judge, who refused to release the health worker during the legal process.

“In Canada, we have the freedom to do this type of intervention in a medical and, above all, safe environment. This woman found herself in conditions that are shocking,” said Judge Marie Kettlyne Ruben on May 16 at the Montreal courthouse.

La Presse revealed this sordid affair at the beginning of May when the victim’s spouse remained detained for his participation in this clandestine abortion. “It’s so barbaric,” the judge was indignant. The pseudodoctor was still evading the police at the time of our publication.

Cally Boyongo Ngunda was arrested by the police a few days later, after hiding in the Montreal metro. The 45-year-old man is charged with sexual assault with a weapon, aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault against a 24-year-old woman, an asylum seeker.

Arriving last summer in Quebec, Cally Boyongo Ngunda worked day and night as a beneficiary attendant to send money to his family in Congo: at the CHSLD Fernand-Larocque in Laval and at the CLSC d’Ahuntsic in Montreal, where he gave home care for very vulnerable people.

The CIUSSS du Nord-de-l’Île-de-Montréal indicated to The Press that he no longer worked at the CLSC for reasons other than the accusations. As for the CISSS de Laval, it is indicated that he was fired.

“It is all the more surprising that someone who has training to take care of people as a beneficiary attendant can so disregard the physical integrity of another person,” underlined Judge Marie Kettlyne Ruben .

Treatments to “free the mind”

According to the account given by Crown prosecutor Me Geneviève Rondeau-Marchand, the victim wishes to keep the child, but her violent partner orders her to have an abortion for financial reasons. He then brings in a “doctor”, his compatriot Cally Boyongo Ngunda. It is the latter who directs the abortion, according to the complainant, who believes she is being treated by a doctor.

The pseudo-doctor advises him to go up and down stairs to sweat. Then he inserts a wooden BBQ stick with a piece of cotton on the end into the woman’s vagina. He goes back and forth three times. He then cleaned it with a syringe of hot water, according to the complainant’s account.

Note that this evidence has not been tested in court.

Cally Boyongo Ngunda then “prescribes” medication. The antibiotics obtained by the spouse had no prescription on the box. Under the advice of the pseudodoctor, the spouse repeats the procedure for four days. But the woman suffers so much that she thinks she will die a few days later. Fortunately, his brother called for help. She was suffering from an infection.

Questioned by the police, Cally Boyongo Ngunda admitted to having intervened with the complainant, but only after the abortion. He said he touched her to “free her mind” and inserted his fingers into the woman’s vagina to “see if there was blood”.

“I am not a doctor”, defends the accused

Gestures which “make you shudder”, according to judge Marie Kettlyne Ruben, who recalls that the complainant has just arrived in Canada, does not speak French well and is a victim of domestic violence. According to the defense, however, there is no evidence linking the accused’s actions and the complainant’s abortion.

On her Congolese passport, Cally Boyongo Ngunda mentions being a “radiologist”. He explained in court that he was trained as a medical imaging technician in Congo. A profession called “radiologist” in his native country. In Quebec, a radiologist or radiologist is a specialist doctor.

On Facebook, Cally Boyongo Ngunda calls herself a “radiologist at the Jewish CHSLD of Montreal”, which was false. Some people call him “doctor” on his Facebook page. In one photo, we see him performing an ultrasound on his stomach, wearing a white coat. A scene from a film where he played a doctor, he defends himself. “I’m not a doctor,” he insists.

Cally Boyongo Ngunda arrived in the country as a refugee last summer. Journalist, actor and “radiologist”, he explained to the Court that he had to flee his country because he hosted political shows. He paid dearly for his activism: his 9-year-old son was murdered this spring.

The defense lawyer, Mr.e Gabriel Bérubé-Bouchard argued that the accused could not remain detained simply because the facts were “disturbing” and there was talk of “drumsticks in the vagina”. “If we detain him for these reasons, we have a problem,” he argued.

Arguments sharply rejected by Judge Marie Kettlyne Ruben, who refused to release the accused for two reasons: maintaining public confidence in the justice system and the risk of the accused fleeing.

Could Cally Boyongo Ngunda have caused other victims? “Steps will be taken in the Congolese community to verify,” testified an investigator from the City of Montreal Police Department.
