He is a quality man but I am waiting to see the results because it will be necessary to have some“, estimates Thursday, July 20 on franceinfo Philippe Juvin, LR deputy for Hauts-de-Seine, professor of medicine, head of the emergency department at the European hospital Georges Pompidou, after the appointment of Aurélien Rousseau as Minister of Health.A government is not a casting. A government is made up of men and women whose results we, the deputies, are going to wait for“, he presses.

franceinfo: Is the choice of Aurélien Rousseau at the Ministry of Health a good casting?

Philippe Juvin : Aurélien Rousseau I know him because he was the boss of the ARS in Île-de-France when I was at the helm of my service at the Pompidou hospital. He did quite well, but a government is not a casting. A government is made up of men and women whose results we, the deputies, are going to wait for. They will be judged on the results, in particular in medical matters, that the French can be treated, that they have a doctor and that they do not wait months before starting their chemotherapy and that the new drugs which are revolutionizing medicine are available in France. That’s what I expect from a Minister of Health, even if I have a positive a priori vis-à-vis the man I appreciate.

In your opinion, did he manage the Covid-19 crisis in Île-de-France well?

There are others who have managed it less well than him. I think he managed it rather well in Île-de-France with all the brakes, all the difficulties there were. He is a quality man but I am waiting to see the results because we will have to have some.

What are the priority projects, in your opinion, of the new Minister of Health?

There is one that is essential is medical demography, the country does not train enough doctors, enough nurses or pharmacists. We need to train twice as many doctors as today, that’s the figure retained by the English who were in the same situation as us and who decided to double the numerus clausus. Among the fundamental subjects, there is the question of access to medicines. Today there are very effective drugs against cancer which are not available in France and which are available from our neighbours. The French must also be well cared for. If he does that, he will be entitled to the Nobel Prize for politics.
