“He didn’t like it”, “Punches before going on stage”, “Fear of the fans”, Mike Brant’s manager, Georges Baumann, makes historical secrets about the late singer!

“Let me love you”, “Tell him”, “A body lost”, or “Mr Shubert I love You”, are among the few most famous titles in Mike Brant’s repertoire. Icon of a whole generation, the famous singer has aroused passions internationally. A true sex symbol, the artist inspired – in his day – thousands of teenagers. With his unique timbre of voice, the young man quickly rose to stardom. As a reminder, the future crooner was born on February 1, 1947 in Cyprus.

But his family history is most tragic… Indeed, Mike Brant is the son of a couple of Auschwitz survivors. For several years, their family lived off agriculture in Palestine. From an early age, the main interested party stands out in singing. Passionate, Mike Brant goes on shows at local parties. The opportunity for him to honor Israeli or American songs. In 1969 his destiny changed when he crossed paths with Sylvie Vartan and Carlos.

The duo, amazed by his talent, convinced him to try his luck in Paris. His career took off immediately upon the release of his song “Let me love you”! Success is there, followed by many other hits and multiple tours. Unfortunately over time, Mike Brant sinks into a terrible depression. After a first suicide attempt in 1974, the icon ended her life a year later in full glory.

Many years after his death, his admirers and loved ones continue to honor his memory. His music remains eternal. In addition to his suffering, Mike Brant sometimes found it difficult to accept “his repertoire” more or less imposed. Harassed by his fans, the handsome brunette has long suffered from this sudden notoriety. “Mike he didn’t like it. Me, I saw him in tears before going on stage. I saw him punching the walls before going on stage. And I think he was unfortunate”, analyzed Georges Baumann, his ex-manager in the documentary.

At worst, the interpreter of “Who will know” chained the series of concerts without blinking: “He arrived in the cities, he didn’t even know where he was singing. He arrived, he looked at the poster where he was singing […] There was also the fear of the fans […] They were little 16-year-old babes who were screaming too much. It was terrible the screams, and it was complicated for Mike”.

Words confirmed by his twin brother Hubert Baumann who also collaborated with the star: “At the time, it was 200 galas a year. We did Marseille, the next day Nice, after, we did Brest after Grenoble. At night we drove. We did about 40,000 km by car a year. It was a life which was extremely tiring”. 48 years ago, a star passed away. Mike Brant may have disappeared, he continues to thrill his audience around the world.
