“It’s a reflex” says Khireddine Rahmouni, oxygen mask on his face because he inhaled a lot of toxic fumes. The young man who lives in Boulazac came to spend the afternoon of this Sunday March 27 with a friend in Place Saint-Martin in Périgueux. They heard screams and saw black smoke coming out of the building located rue de Solférino. His friend called the fire department and Khireddine heard the cries of a woman trapped inside with her three children. The young Périgourdin then climbed the facade of the building to reach the second floor: “it’s a reflex to save the children, I climbed through the window, once inside the apartment I couldn’t do anything because the fire was coming from the hallway but I stayed with them because they were in a panic. I put the children in a room near the window to wait for the firefighters, I tried to do what I could”.
When the firefighters arrived, Khireddine and the inhabitants of the apartment were evacuated by the big ladder during the extinction of the fire which started from rubbish in the corridor. The eight people, two men, three women and three children were transported to Périgueux hospital because they inhaled toxic fumes. They are relocated by the town hall. The other residents of the residence did not need to be evacuated.
