“He ate Aznavour for hundreds of hours”, Tahar Rahim worked hard to play the superstar

It’s a biopic that’s already getting a lot of attention, a year before its theatrical release, and for many reasons: the first, Grand Corps Malade is the director. The most popular slammer in France is trying his hand at directing a film for the third time in his career, and has not chosen an anecdotal subject. The singer who notably collaborated with Camille Lellouche has decided to pay tribute to the great Charles Aznavour, who died on October 1, 2018. The filming is now finished, the slammer is having a hard time separating Tahar Rahim from Charles Aznavour, as the actor’s performance has amazed him: “As soon as he got into it, that is to say, that’s it, the filming is over, I continue to be around Tahar Rahim, but it feels strange. For me, it was so Charles . He is no longer Charles Aznavour, but he played him so well. He spoke like him, even outside of filming, he moved like him, he dreamed Aznavour, he lived Aznavour, like no one else.

A masterful casting

Grand Corps Malade reveals that to succeed in getting into the skin of this emblematic character of French song internationally, Tahar Rahim did not skimp on the means, and took singing, dancing and body language lessons. “He worked like crazy, and I think the result is there, he put in an exceptional performance” assured the 46-year-old director, who had already directed La Vie Scolaire in 2019, and two years earlier Patients. The character of Édith Piaf will be played by the actress Marie-Julie Baup, awarded two Molière awards a few months ago for the piece Forget me by Matthew Seager.
