Two months after the violent attack suffered by PSG player Kheira Hamraoui, Hayet Abidal has chosen to break the silence and deliver his truth. Initially suspected of having ordered the attack out of revenge – the footballer and Eric Abidal had an affair – the mother of five wants to defend her honor: “I found myself embroiled in all this in spite of myself. I hadn’t even heard of Kheira Hamraoui’s attack” she told the Parisian.
At the time, she was in Bucharest with her sister and her husband and she was far from imagining the extent of the scandal that the affair would take. Very quickly, his name circulated on social networks. The connection between the player and Eric Abidal is revealed in broad daylight and the sentence that one of the attackers would have chanted “So how do we sleep with married men?“, makes her one of the main suspects. Hayet Abidal had until then only expressed herself in court, as a witness and at her request. She now believes that she has nothing left to hide from anyone: “I have nothing to do with this case.“
Hayet Abidal had no suspicion of any connection between Kheira Hamraoui and her husband, especially since they had forged ties when he arrived in Barcelona in 2018: “The fact that she comes from Lyon, like us, brought us closer and my husband had asked me to introduce her to Barcelona. We became friends, she knew my children. I helped her to integrate as I do with many players who settle here. Until I discovered, over time, that she behaved strangely and sometimes inappropriately with my husband and other men. So I cut ties.“
For Hayet Abidal, Kheira Hamraoui’s behavior is not beyond reproach. Learning that she had been assaulted didn’t really surprise her: “I knew that girl well and I know she’s a problem girl“, she confessed, specifying that she did not wish on anyone what she had suffered. She even goes so far as to qualify the victim as “diabolical“: “I have the impression that the more I rubbed shoulders with her, the more my relationship sank, as if she had added fuel to the fire” Today, a reconciliation between the two women is impossible: “I have no contact with her… and I’m not ready to have any. I am a proud woman. This story touched me and my family“. Hayet Abidal has only one priority, to think of his children: “I have five wonderful children who make me smile every day, she explains. I have to stay dignified.“A mom first and foremost.
