“Having an indictment is a relief”Satisfied Friday April 7 on franceinfo Virginie Leroy, lawyer for the family of Samuel Paty, while the national anti-terrorism prosecution announced its requisitions concerning fourteen implicated in the assassination of Professor Samuel Paty in October 2020.

“It’s a first step towards a trial and it’s a relief for the family”estimated Virginie Leroy. “This means that all the protagonists will be able to participate in the contradictory debates before the court. On the other hand, I am more reserved on the requests for requalifications of the parquet floor”. If the national anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office has requested a judgment for fourteen people, the requisitions are indeed weaker than during the investigation, and only two people are now prosecuted for “complicity in terrorist assassination”against ten during the investigation.

A trial “in the second half of 2024 at the earliest”

According to Samuel Paty’s family lawyer, the date of the trial is still uncertain: “It will depend on a possible appeal of this dismissal order. I think there will be an appeal”. Virginia Leroy “hope it will be relatively quick but we have to count on the second half of 2024 at the earliest”. “This wait is difficult because we need to hear from those responsible for the assassination of Samuel and we need justice to pass”she finished.
