The departments of Ain, Haute-Savoie, Savoie and Isère are no longer on orange vigilance for rain and flooding, Thursday, December 30, according to the latest vigilance bulletin from Météo France. With the exception of Ain, all these departments, however, remain on orange alert for avalanches. Le Puy-de-Dôme (downstream section of the Dore between Vichy and Ambert) and the Ain (river of the Ain) are in orange vigilance with the floods.

The risk of avalanches is high and is evolving “marked risk” on the following massifs: Chablais, Aravis, Mont-Blanc, Beaufortain, Haute-Tarentaise, Vanoise, Haute-Maurienne, Maurienne, Belledonne, Grandes-Rousses and Oisans. It is already “Brand” on the Bauges, Chartreuse and Vercors massifs, Météo France writes in its morning bulletin. The meteorological service warns that with “the stop of precipitation, spontaneous avalanche activity is decreasing”. However, “The humidification of very thick snow coats at altitude can induce latency and avalanches can still occur at the start of the day on Thursday”.

Météo France recommends avoiding mountain trips in the departments where the risk of avalanches is high and to move away from waterways in areas with orange vigilance against floods. Orange vigilance for rain and flooding has been lifted in the Alpine departments and in the Ain. Nevertheless, “The consequences on the ground in terms of flooding still persist during the day on Thursday in places, and floods continue to spread on the rivers of these regions”, continues Météo France.
