Meeting with farmer representatives
While the head of state was forced to cancel the holding of the big debate at the Agricultural Show with agricultural unions, environmental and agro-industrial associations, Emmanuel Macron finally spoke with farmer representatives this Saturday, February 24.
During these discussions, the President of the Republic announced various commitments. Among them, an emergency cash flow plan, floor prices in each sector or even recognition of “our agriculture and our food as a major general interest of the French nation”.
A regression for the environment and health?
While the government wishes to take measures to calm the anger of farmers, which is not weakening, a group of researchers specializing in ecological and health issues is alarmed in a platform to the “World” of a “regression for environment and health”.
“Recent executive decisions to end farmers’ mobilization represent clear setbacks in the fight against environmental degradation and for the preservation of its ecological functions” specifies the forum. The more than 1,000 scientists who signed them highlight that these setbacks also lead to “major risks” on the human health of the entire current and future population.
