The UK is in shock. This Monday, February 5, 2024, Buckingham Palace issued an official statement announcing that the king Charles III
had been diagnosed with “form of cancer”. This disease was discovered during a benign prostate surgery. Following this diagnosis, the king would have started “regular treatments“. At the age of 75, he wishes to reassure the public by affirming his intention to continue “take care of state affairs”although the doctors told him “advised to postpone public activities.”
Stéphane Bern, expert in royal affairs, describes the press release issued by Buckingham Palace as “reassuring”. “Buckingham indicates that Charles III will follow his treatment, that he is not incapable of reigning. He will continue to open the famous red boxes (which contain official government documents). He must, of course, postpone his public activities, but there is no power vacuum. Truth be told, I’m more taken aback by Kate’s medical problems and her very long recovery. This remains a mystery, whereas for Charles III, things are said more clearly”he explained during an interview with Parisian this Tuesday, February 6.

“The ordeal was very painful”
However, some admirers of the Windsor clan seem particularly worried. They believe that the return of Prince Harry does not bode well. However, Stéphane Bern assures that there is no point in exaggerating. “It is not a return to all ceasing affairs either, but in the coming days. This illness will at least serve to heal the still painful family wounds”he specifies.
And to add: “We know that cancers can develop thanks to emotional shocks. And, with Harry, the ordeal was very painful. Charles is a very sensitive man, who refrained from any comments when his son attacked him in the press or in his book. Between them, there is as much love as there is misunderstanding. They’re going to meet again, that’s a good thing. Harry doesn’t have much of a choice: what would people have thought of him if he hadn’t shown his emotion? He would have lost all credit.” That’s what it says…
