Harris denounces the “extremist” agenda of Trump and his allies

(Houston) Kamala Harris on Thursday denounced before teachers in Texas the “backward-looking” agenda of Donald Trump “and his extremist allies,” during an event of a campaign launched at full speed and focused on the former president.

“Donald Trump and his extremist allies want to take our nation back to failed economic policies,” the Democratic candidate told the American Federation of Teachers, meeting in Houston.

Education, gun control, abortion rights, accessible health care… The fifty-year-old reeled off the campaign arguments she has been honing since Sunday, when she took up the torch after the shock announcement of Joe Biden’s withdrawal, “pushed out” by the Democratic leaders according to Donald Trump.

The Republican billionaire and his allies “have the nerve to tell teachers to put a gun in the classroom when they refuse to pass common-sense gun safety laws,” she told an electrified audience of teachers.

The vice president also discussed book bans in several states, reflecting clashes over social issues related to gender, sexuality, racism: “We want to ban assault weapons, and they want to ban books.”
