Its name is world famous, yet the French public knows little about this prestigious American magazine. He will find out from Thursday, February 23. Harper’s Bazaar finally launches its French version, under the impetus of Prisma Media (Vivendi), number one in the magazine press. It is the oldest fashion title still existing, it was born in 1867 in New York. The first to put a man on the cover, Steve McQueen. The first to come out of the studios to do outdoor photo shoots. It was at the end of the 1930s, the Kodachrome process then made it possible to take color shots and the golden skin of the models stood out even better in the sun.
Harper’s Bazaar also revealed great fashion designers: Christian Dior and Jeanne Lanvin to name but a few. Famous authors have written for the monthly: Colette, Françoise Sagan, Simone de Beauvoir, André Malraux, Charles Dickens who published a short story in the very first issue. A young illustrator also started his career there by designing shoes: a certain Andy Warhol. Olivier Lalanne, editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar Franceis the media guest of Célyne Baÿt-Darcourt.
