Harper endorses Poilievre

Former Prime Minister Stephen Harper gave his support to his former minister Pierre Poilievre in the race for the leadership of the Conservative Party of Canada on Monday evening.

“Pierre Poilievre has been a good minister in my government, and over the past few years has been the most effective Liberal government critic in our party,” Harper said in a video posted on Twitter.

The MP and presumed leader in the Conservative leadership race served as Minister of Human Resources and Social Development between 2013 and 2015 under the Harper government.

In the eyes of the latter, Mr. Poilievre “offers solutions rooted in conservative roots, but adapted to modern reality.”

In his opinion, Pierre Poilievre, because of the enthusiasm he arouses among the Conservative base, is in the best position to win the next election against the Liberals.

The next leader of the Conservative Party is to be elected on September 10.
