Harold LeBel’s trial adjourned Thursday, until Monday morning, following the Crown prosecutor’s decision not to call any other witnesses at the Rimouski courthouse.
Since the start of the trial, the prosecution has called the testimony of a forensic identification technician and the complainant. At least one other testimony was expected to complete the evidence: that of the friend of the alleged victim who was in the condominium of Harold LeBel the evening of the facts.
However, Judge Serge Francoeur announced Thursday morning that the prosecution’s evidence was “closed” and that prosecutor Manon Gaudreault would not finally call other witnesses.
It is therefore the turn of the defense to be heard with the testimony of the accused. In order to give his lawyer time to prepare, the judge announced that he will not be heard until Monday morning.
The former MP for Rimouski faces a charge of sexual assault for actions taken in October 2017. He was arrested in December 2020.
