“Hard to bear”, “I didn’t make it”, the heavy regrets of François Damiens about his children of whom he never speaks

Often associated with his comedic roles, François Damiens has already performed numerous dramatic roles. Experiences which were an opportunity for the Belgian actor to broaden his range of emotions, but also to experiment with other styles with more serious tones. This is the case of the film Under the wind of the marquises a comedy which is released in theaters this Wednesday, January 24, 2024 and in which the 51-year-old man plays the role of Alain, a film actor who is preparing to play the role of singer Jacques Brel.

A feature film directed by Pierre Godeau, in which the main character learns that he has stage 2 colon cancer. News which prompts him to leave filming to spend time with his family and in particular his daughter Lou played by actress Salomé Dewaels.

A moving film on which François Damiens spoke this Wednesday when he was a guest on RTL. “Salomé, who plays my daughter, is a great actress who is amazing, but it’s true that it raised a lot of questions because it’s a film that talks about the denial of illness, cowardice, resentment… Feelings that moved me. I had the impression of being filmed from the inside and when I saw the film […]I had three weeks where I asked myself questions where I said to myself ‘Hey, aren’t you having a little depression?’ I didn’t really want to get up…”confided the actor with emotion.

Rare confidences about his children

Father of two children, Jack, 22, and Jimmy, 19, François Damien also made revelations about his paternity. “I always tried to protect them, but I don’t think I always got thereanalyzed the man of cinema.

“Often, I asked them the question when they were little at school and they always told me that it was okay. But sometimes, I I didn’t hear the detours that were sometimes hard to bearwhich I can understand”, he concluded about the consequence of his fame on his offspring…
