Separated by an ocean, united by the same affection for the classic house of the late 1980s and the beginning of the following decade. Expertly produced, none other than Joe Goddard of British group Hot Chip, who fell in love with the authenticity and voice of New Yorker Amy Douglas; which was only to be an essay, a single-balloon launched into the dance stratosphere, became an album of eight dramatic songs. Douglas, who composed the hit Something More for Roisin Murphy, expresses in his lyrics and in his spectacular soul-disco voice pressing and sometimes desperate emotions, suggesting at times the solemn Annie Lennox of Eurythmics. Yes, it’s nostalgic, rubbery bass, synth and 808 tones inspired by the legendary’s repertoire. label New Yorker Strictly Rhythm, recalling the graceful years of vocal house – on the powerful Running Out of Time and You Always Know, the voice of Douglas even recalls the carnal timbre of Shara Nelson, the voice of the classic Unfinished Sympathy (1991) from Massive Attack.
