Handling of weapons | Brandon Lee’s sister pleads for actor training

(Los Angeles) Actors who wield guns on film sets should be pre-trained for safety reasons, said Shannon Lee, sister of actor Brandon Lee, who was fatally injured in 1993 on set, said Monday.

“They don’t get training on how to handle weapons. […] I think safety training (should be) mandatory so that actors can check the guns for themselves and know how to use them properly and keep others safe, ”Shannon Lee told the AFP at the Asian International Film Festival (FICA) Monday in Los Angeles.

The daughter of martial arts legend Bruce Lee said she was “frustrated” by the tragedy that occurred during the filming of Rust where cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed by a bullet fired accidentally by actor Alec Baldwin.

“This should not have happened again”, lamented the sister of Brandon Lee, who died at 28 after being shot and wounded during the filming of the film. The Crow in 1993.

Reacting to Alec Baldwin’s comments on Saturday that “there was a one in a trillion chance that it would happen,” Shannon Lee retorted: “I listened to it, but it isn’t, this has happened before ”.

Shannon Lee advocates in particular that firearms be replaced on film sets by dummy weapons and visual and sound effects. However, she points out, “I don’t think it’s a popular idea in the industry right now. “
