Handball player Benoît Kounkoud, freshly European champion with the French team, was taken into police custody during the night from Monday to Tuesday for attempted rape in a nightclub in the eighth arrondissement of Paris, franceinfo learned on Wednesday January 31 from a source close to the file, confirming information from Valeurs Actuelles.

The champion was arrested around 4 a.m. Tuesday, in a state of drunkenness. The open investigation is entrusted to the first district of the Parisian judicial police, according to a source close to the file. Contacted Wednesday morning by franceinfo, the Paris prosecutor’s office specifies that a 20-year-old woman accuses him of “attempted rape”during an evening “alcoholic” in a nightclub in the 8th arrondissement.
