(Hamburg) American Bernarda Pera upset favorite Anett Kontaveit 6-2, 6-4 in the Hamburg Open final on Saturday to clinch her second title in just seven days.

Pera, winner of a first career title on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) circuit last week in Budapest, saved three of the four break points offered to her opponent, and converted four of her six against Kontaveit, the second racket in the world.
Pera, the 81e world player, thus signed a 12e straight win, a streak that began in the Budapest tournament qualifying draw. The 27-year-old defeated Serbian Aleksandra Krunic in the final in Hungary last Sunday.
Kontaveit was playing his 16e career final on the WTA Tour, and her first since losing to Poland’s Iga Swiatek in Doha last February. She coveted a seventh career title, against Pera.
Instead, she managed to avenge her 7-5, 6-1 loss to Kontaveit in the first round of Wimbledon in June.
On the men’s side, tournament favorite Carlos Alcaraz of Spain and Lorenzo Musetti of Italy won their semi-final match on Saturday and will meet in the final on Sunday.
Alcaraz, just 19, knocked out Slovak Alex Molcan 7-6(2), 6-1. Musetti, who is only 20, defeated Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 7-6 (3).
Alcaraz will look to improve to 5-0 in the final and claim a fifth title in 2022 after triumphs in Madrid, Barcelona, Miami and Rio de Janeiro.
Musetti will be looking for a first career title.
